Russia has pulled in elite paratrooper reserves from its 76th Air Assault Division to reinforce its offensive toward Pokrovsk, Ukrainian Airborne Forces said on November 21.

Ukraine’s 7th Air Assault Corps reported that the Armed Forces continue to hold designated lines in the northern part of Pokrovsk while maintaining control of key positions south of the city’s railway—terrain Ukrainian commanders say will be essential for future counteroffensive operations.

Russian units, meanwhile, are attempting to push across the rail line to expand their foothold inside the city, but Ukrainian troops “are blocking these attempts,” the corps said.

“Enemy forces in Pokrovsk are being worn down. As a result, the Russians have been forced to replenish their losses,” the corps reported.

“Russian command has already committed the operational reserve of the ‘Center’ grouping—units of the 76th Air Assault Division.”

The 76th Division is one of Russia’s most experienced airborne formations and has been repeatedly used to stabilize failing Russian offensives across the front.

To prevent further Russian advances, Ukrainian commanders are reinforcing their own grouping in the area—including expanding the number of drone operators as unmanned systems take on a growing share of reconnaissance and strike missions across the front.

“One of the key tasks remains completely cutting the enemy’s supply routes into the city, including through the use of tactical and army aviation,” the corps said.

Ukrainian forces also reported eliminating several small Russian groups attempting to infiltrate the village of Hryshyne northwest of Pokrovsk. On the northern outskirts of Myrnohrad, clearing operations against remaining Russian infantry are nearing completion, with additional resources being deployed to hunt Russian troops detected in the city’s southern sector.

Pokrovsk has become one of the most brutal directions of Russia’s current campaign. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, between November 20 and 21 alone, Russian forces launched 59 ground assaults along the Pokrovsk axis, attacking multiple nearby settlements in an attempt to gain tactical momentum.

Ukrainian officials emphasize that despite severe pressure and constant clashes, defensive lines are holding—and reinforcements are being deployed to prevent any further Russian breakthroughs.

Earlier, Ukraine’s military had firmly rejected Russian General Staff chief Valery Gerasimov’s claim—made directly to Vladimir Putin—that Russian forces have “liberated Kupiansk.” Ukrainian officials say the city remains under Ukrainian control and accuse Moscow of pushing a coordinated disinformation campaign to mask its battlefield failures.
