Russia Distributes Guidelines to Soldiers for Digging Mass Graves
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations released an updated manual detailing procedures for digging mass graves during wartime, amid mounting Russian casualties, now allegedly surpassing 700,000 dead and wounded as of November 4. This announcement follows a patent released by the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property on October 2.
The 20-page textbook titled “Civil Defense: Urgent Burials of Corpses in Wartime” features diagrams depicting mass graves with body bags stacked atop one another.
According to the manual, instructions and illustrations guide soldiers on how to construct graves capable of holding up to 100 bodies, specifying dimensions of 20 meters in length, three meters in width, and 2.3 meters in depth, requiring 368.5 hours of manual labor.
Additional guidelines address the use of cremation in specific circumstances and offer methods to limit the risk of chemical, biological, or radiological contamination during burial.
Originally published in 2021, the manual initially outlined procedures for handling large numbers of casualties in the event of an attack.
The latest update comes as Moscow’s forces experience high losses in Ukraine, often attributed to Russia’s “meatgrinder” tactics, where large numbers of infantry are deployed, resulting in heavy casualties among troops.
Earlier, Estonian Colonel Ants Kiviselg, head of the Estonian Defense Forces Intelligence Center, stated that North Korean troops are likely to face significant losses in Ukraine, potentially surpassing those of Russian forces.
