According to AviVector, satellite imagery and ground markings from recent excavation indicate that Russia plans to construct 12 new aircraft parking stands in the area, along with the necessary connecting taxiways to incorporate them into the base’s overall infrastructure.

Engels-2 serves as a key hub for Russia’s strategic aviation, housing long-range bombers such as the Tu-95MS and Tu-160, which have been actively used by Moscow to carry out missile attacks on Ukraine.

Situated approximately 620 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, the airbase has come under multiple drone attacks since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Earlier, a satellite image verified that a long-range drone strike destroyed an ammunition depot at the Engels-2 airbase in Russia’s Saratov region.

According to the photage, all warehouse structures inside the storage zone were obliterated. Multiple craters are visible in sections where munitions were stored in the open, and the surrounding area bears clear traces of fire damage.
