Russia Hits DTEK Coal Plant in Dnipropetrovsk, Sixth Attack on Ukraine’s Energy Sector in Two Months

On October 20, Russian forces targeted a coal enrichment plant operated by DTEK in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, the company confirmed.
The attack did not result in any injuries among personnel, but the facility did sustain damage. DTEK teams are now working to mitigate the aftermath and assess the full extent of the destruction.
“Response efforts are ongoing. None of our colleagues were harmed,” the company said in a statement.
According to DTEK, this is the sixth large-scale strike on its coal operations by Russian forces in just the past two months, underscoring the ongoing threat to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

The strike comes just days after a similar assault on DTEK Naftogaz. On the night of October 16, Russian drones and missiles targeted the company’s energy infrastructure in Poltava region, forcing a halt to operations at local gas extraction sites.
“At night, the enemy once again attacked DTEK Naftogaz’s energy infrastructure with drones and missiles. As a result of the attack, the operation of gas production facilities in Poltava region was stopped,” the company reported via its official Telegram channel.
Local authorities confirmed that the attack and resulting debris damaged critical oil and gas infrastructure, temporarily cutting gas supplies to 6,450 consumers across six settlements. Emergency crews were immediately dispatched to carry out repairs and restore services.
Earlier, Ukraine developed a network of battery energy storage facilities to support the national power grid during potential Russian missile or drone attacks.
