DTEK  has signed a record loan agreement with a consortium of Ukrainian banks, led by Oschadbank, to finance the construction of advanced energy storage infrastructure in Ukraine.

The company announced the deal on June 3.

Under the agreement, Oschadbank, PUMB, and Ukrgasbank will provide nearly UAH 3 billion (approximately $75 million) to support the development of a large-scale battery storage complex — one of the biggest in Eastern Europe.

The loan, finalized last week, is the largest domestic financing DTEK has received to date for energy infrastructure development.

“This investment is part of our long-term strategy to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience and independence. Our goal is not only to rebuild, but to lay the foundation for a modern, stable energy system that supports Ukraine’s economic recovery,” said DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko.

The funding will cover five battery storage units with a combined capacity of 180 MW. In total, six units are planned across multiple regions, with a projected capacity of 200 MW. The banks’ loan will finance a portion of the project, while the rest will be covered by DTEK’s own capital. The agreement is valid through September 25, 2030.

Once completed in 2025, the system will provide electricity to up to 600,000 Ukrainian households simultaneously, reinforcing the country’s energy security amid ongoing wartime challenges.

Earlier, the RePower Ukraine Foundation had launched a rooftop solar power plant at the Kharkiv Regional Clinical Trauma Hospital.

The initiative is designed to provide uninterrupted electricity to critical medical infrastructure in Saltivka, Kharkiv’s most heavily targeted district, amid continued strikes on Ukraine’s national energy grid.
