Russia has begun serial production of aerial bombs equipped with new guidance modules capable of striking targets up to 200 kilometers away, according to Ukrinform on October 20.

Ukrainian intelligence reported that these upgraded munitions are already being used against cities such as Dnipro and others deep inside Ukrainian territory.

Vadym Skibitsky, Deputy Chief of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, said that Russia completed the development and combat testing phase of the new bombs in recent months.

“During September and October, Russia developed and moved to the final combat testing of aerial bombs with new control modules. Their operational radius is expected to reach 200 kilometers. The first strikes were recorded in Dnipro; now we see them in other cities,” Skibitsky told Ukrinform.

HUR reporting and independent Ukrainian media coverage note that the Russian effort pairs mass production with the adoption of common guidance modules for conventional free-fall bombs, turning them into guided glide or guided aerial munitions capable of stand-off delivery from combat aircraft.

Earlier, it was reported that Russia has introduced an electronic-warfare-resistant Kometa-M24 guidance system to improve the accuracy and jamming-resilience of its glide-bomb kits, extending their effective standoff role.
