Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Sergey Tsivilev led a delegation to Niger, holding a series of official meetings in the capital Niamey with President Abdourahamane Tchiani, Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, and Minister of Mines Ousmane Abarchi. The visit included government officials and representatives from Russian business circles, according to the Russian Ministry of Energy’s official Telegram channel on July 29.

One of the main items on the agenda was the creation of a Russia–Niger intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation.

The proposed body is expected to facilitate long-term planning and coordination across various sectors.

“We had constructive discussions with our ministerial colleagues. Niger presented its cooperation proposals, and now our teams are discussing practical ways to develop them further,” Tsivilev said.

The parties discussed potential joint projects in energy, agriculture, infrastructure, transport, and mining. During the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Rosatom and Niger’s Ministry of Energy. The document outlines collaboration in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and associated technologies.

As reported by The Moscow Times, Russian officials also expressed readiness to assist Niger in building new power generation facilities, including nuclear power plants.

Russia and Niger have previously held talks on trade and security matters. The current visit builds on those discussions, introducing specific frameworks for economic and technological cooperation.

Earlier, it was reported that the United Kingdom unveiled new sanctions targeting Russian energy firms, oil tankers, and maritime infrastructure, including Rosneft Marine and other entities supporting Russia’s energy sector.
