Russia Reportedly Deploys Bird-Like Spy Drones to Outsmart Detection

Russian Telegram Channels claim that the Russian Armed Forces have begun using drones disguised as birds, making them difficult to detect both visually and acoustically.
Several Ukrainian sources have reported the appearance of an unusual unmanned aerial vehicle that resembles a bird in both shape and flight behavior.
A drone resembling a bird, featuring a beak-shaped nose, feather-like tail, and curved wings, reportedly crashed or was shot down in a Ukrainian-controlled area. Local reports state it is powered by two electric motors.
The use of such drones significantly complicates detection by both radar and visual observation, especially in low-light or overcast conditions when bird-like silhouettes blend naturally into the background.

Ukrainian military observers have noted that the drone’s dark color scheme and acoustic profile can delay response times during interception attempts, particularly for FPV drone operators.
Russian military exhibitions showcased owl- and falcon-shaped UAV prototypes as early as 2018, intended for reconnaissance and target designation. Recent sightings suggest that such concepts are now being deployed in active combat scenarios.
While Ukraine has successfully neutralized thousands of Russian drones through electronic warfare and tactical drone-on-drone combat, these new bird-mimicking UAVs pose an additional challenge.
Earlier, Dutch intelligence revealed that Russia has been systematically using banned chemical weapons in Ukraine, including chloropicrin-filled munitions and improvised gas devices dropped by drones. According to officials, the scale of use points to a coordinated chemical warfare program, with over 9,000 reported incidents and thousands of Ukrainian soldiers affected.
