Russia Reportedly Loses Ka-52 “Alligator” Gunship—Both Pilots Dead in Mysterious Crash

A Russian Ka-52 “Alligator” attack helicopter has crashed, resulting in the death of both pilots, according to multiple Russian Telegram channels cited on October 11.
The incident was initially reported by Russian Telegram channels affiliated with military aviation, which claimed the crash was not caused by enemy fire.
No official statement has been released by Russia’s Ministry of Defense, and the exact location and circumstances of the crash remain undisclosed.
The Ka-52 “Alligator,” developed by the Kamov Design Bureau, is one of Russia’s primary attack helicopters used in operations against Ukraine.
It is equipped with a nose-mounted electro-optical targeting system, allowing detection and engagement of ground targets at long range, and can coordinate actions within helicopter groups.

The aircraft can reach speeds up to 300 km/h and conduct operations in adverse weather conditions, both day and night.
The Ka-52 is designed to destroy armored and unarmored vehicles, enemy positions, and aerial targets at low altitudes. While unconfirmed, Russian sources suggest the latest loss may have occurred during a nighttime defensive operation within Russian territory.
According to open-source intelligence project Oryx, Russia has lost at least 50 Ka-52 helicopters destroyed and 14 damaged since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The actual number is likely higher.
Some damaged aircraft have reportedly been repaired using components salvaged from other helicopters.
Earlier, a Russian MiG-31 fighter jet crashed during a landing attempt in the Lipetsk region after a routine training flight, according to state media. Both pilots ejected and survived. The crash was reportedly caused by a landing gear failure.
