Russia Says It Didn’t Aim for Poland in Overnight Strikes, But Drones Tell Another Story

Russia has insisted it did not intend to strike targets inside Poland, though it did not explain how several of its drones ended up crossing into Polish territory, according to a statement published by the Russian Defense Ministry on September 10.
In a statement on Telegram, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that “no targets on Polish territory were planned.”
The ministry added that the drones allegedly crossing into Poland had a maximum range of about 700 kilometers and expressed readiness to hold consultations with Poland’s Defense Ministry over the incident.
According to the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the drones entered Poland from Belarus and moved in a crescent shape southward, about 8 km east of Chełm, toward Zamość and Tomaszów Lubelski, flying about 10–12 km east of both cities and continuing further south. At least two drones were shot down near Cześniki–Niewirków (15 km east of Zamość).

Moscow also repeated its assertions that the strike campaign against Ukraine was “successful,” claiming all intended targets were hit.
“The objectives of the strike were achieved. All designated targets were destroyed,” the ministry claimed.

Kyiv has not confirmed Russia’s claims, and Western analysts have repeatedly cautioned that Moscow frequently exaggerates the effectiveness of its strikes.
Earlier, NATO invoked Article 4 of its founding treaty at Poland’s request, following a wave of Russian drones crossing into Polish airspace overnight.
