Russia has reportedly begun using a new type of weapon against civilian targets. A jet-powered drone, resembling an aircraft, attacked the Odesa region early morning on May 5, according to several monitoring Telegram channels.

The drone has a speed of approximately 750 km/h (466 mph) and a flight range exceeding 150 km (93 miles).

The Russian military has referred to this new drone as "Product C."

Other types of strike drones used by Russian forces are marked as follows, according to monitoring channels:

  • M - Manufactured in Iran.

  • Ы and Ь - Manufactured in Tatarstan (Alabuga).

  • K, KM, and KC - Manufactured at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant.

The drone’s design is similar to the Kalibr missile, offering high maneuverability, including the ability to change its flight trajectory by 90° at speeds of up to 250 km/h (155 mph).

According to reports, the "C" model has been successfully tested, and further group launches across Ukraine are expected within a month. If production continues at its current pace, the use of these jet-powered drones could increase fivefold this summer, with South of Ukraine potentially facing more frequent attacks.

“Russia is planning to test jet-powered drones in May, not as single launches, but in group launches of 2-3-4 drones at a time. After studying the response of Ukraine's air defense and evaluating the capabilities of their own strike systems, Russia plans to significantly improve these drones over the course of the month before moving on to the next phase of deployment,” Operatyvnyi Inform wrote.

“This development suggests an escalation in the use of jet-powered UAVs, with a focus on increasing the scale and coordination of attacks on Ukrainian territory.”

Previously, it was reported that Russia has begun using a new type of drone, known as “Banderol,” for attacks against Ukraine, according to Defense Express on April 26, citing communications and electronic warfare specialist Serhii “Flesh” Beskrestnov.
