On May 23, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has stated that Russia’s current strategy in peace negotiations appears focused on pushing the United States out of the process.
Speaking at a press conference, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine, Sybiha emphasized the critical importance of US involvement in any diplomatic efforts to resolve the war, noting that European security cannot be ensured without American participation.

“To resume the talks that took place in Turkey, there should be no preconditions,” Sybiha said. “Clear agreements were reached during those discussions, especially on the exchange of prisoners of war, which has now begun.”
He also noted that while Russia continues to frame its position with what he described as “pseudo-historical lectures,” Ukraine remains committed to moving forward.
Sybiha confirmed that Kyiv is currently preparing its own proposals and awaits Russia’s vision for a future ceasefire without conditions.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has announced the creation of a so-called “security buffer zone” along the Russian-Ukrainian border.
