Russia Yet to Officially Respond to US Ceasefire Proposal, Ukraine Demands Unconditional Response

Russia has yet to officially respond to the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, and when it does, the response must come without additional conditions.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, a member of the peace negotiation team, stated this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine published on March 17.
“By supporting the US ceasefire proposal, Ukraine has demonstrated its global commitment to achieving a just peace. The diplomatic ball is now in Russia’s court. We are waiting for their response—but it must come without conditions,” Sybiha said.
According to the Foreign Minister, despite comments from Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding the proposal, Moscow has yet to provide an official response. Sybiha emphasized that Russia must directly confirm its position to the US side.
“Ukraine has accepted the US proposal, and accordingly, Russia must reciprocate in kind,” Sybiha stated.

On March 18, US President Donald Trump announced plans to hold a phone conversation with Putin to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine and the status of occupied territories, as well as the future of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
On March 11, Ukraine agreed to a US-proposed 30-day temporary ceasefire, which could be extended if Russia also commits to and implements the terms. Meanwhile, the United States lifted its pause on intelligence sharing and resumed security assistance to Ukraine.
On March 13, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi stated that he was very positive about the meeting in Jeddah that went on between the Ukrainian and US delegations.
Tykhyi reported that Ukraine came to Jeddah with three proposals, which were: achieving a ceasefire in the air, a naval ceasefire in the Black Sea, and the exchange of prisoners of war.
