Russian Commander Seizes Soldiers’ Bank Cards to Prevent Desertion, Ukrainian Partisans Say

The Ukrainian partisan movement ATESH has reported another case of abuse within the Russian army.

According to the group on October 7, an agent from among the servicemen of the 205th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, deployed on the Kherson front, revealed unprecedented actions by his company commander.

The commander recently confiscated the bank cards of all personnel ahead of the unit’s redeployment to the Donetsk region. ATESH said the leadership, fearing a surge in desertions, is trying to deprive soldiers of access to their own funds.

The officer reportedly promised to return the cards after the transfer but strictly forbade anyone from disclosing the incident to avoid inspection. Those who dared to speak up were directly threatened with being “zeroed out.” 

ATESH called on Russian soldiers not to remain silent about such abuses.

“Do not tolerate this lawlessness! Your commanders see you only as expendable material and are ready to use any, even illegal, means to keep you at the front,” the movement said.

Russia Is Sending Its Wounded Soldiers Into Meat Grinder Assaults, Even on Crutches

The report comes amid growing complaints from Russian troops about catastrophic losses and the reckless tactics of their commanders. Soldiers have increasingly spoken out about being sent on so-called “meat assaults” near Pokrovsk in Donetsk region, according to a video published by Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces on Telegram on September 22.

“This is yet another example of the Russian command’s disregard for the lives of its soldiers. They are promised big contract payments and humane treatment, but instead receive nothing and are immediately sent into battle—without equipment, without support, without assistance—straight into ‘meat assaults,’” Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces said.

Earlier, it was reported that Russian soldiers who decline to renew their military contracts are being transferred to the Kursk region and forced into high-risk “meat grinder” assaults.
