Russian Drone Attack Damages University Facilities in Kyiv, Shifting Students to Remote Learning
The latest wave of drone strikes on Kyiv has left significant damage to the buildings of Taras Shevchenko National University. According to a statement from the Institute of International Relations, both the main academic building and one of its dormitories suffered damage early this morning as drone debris impacted the area.
University officials confirmed that windows and doors were shattered at the Institute of International Relations, with further impact reported to nearby shops and former industrial sites, including an old motorcycle plant. The affected university buildings will transition to remote learning from November 4 through November 9 to accommodate necessary repairs. This shift also applies to students from the Institute of Journalism at the same university.
Kyiv’s military administration (KMVA) reported that during the early hours of November 3, Russia launched multiple drones aimed at the capital, navigating at very low altitudes in groups to evade detection. While Ukrainian air defense forces managed to intercept and destroy 66 of the 96 drones launched, several fell in the Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi districts of Kyiv, causing damage from debris.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, the assault, which included both Shahed drones and a guided missile, is part of an ongoing series of air attacks targeting Ukraine’s urban centers and infrastructure. Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify these strikes as war crimes due to the impact on residential areas, hospitals, schools, and essential infrastructure.
