Russian Forces Hold Northern Vovchansk as Fighting Intensifies in Kharkiv Region

Russian forces remain in the northern part of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, with this area still under their control. This was stated by Oleksandr Danylenko, head of the media relations group of the ‘Hart’ brigade, during a televised marathon on February 4.
“They [Russian forces] are present in the northern part of Vovchansk, as the area north of the Vovcha River largely remains under occupation. However, there is little cover there—the city is practically destroyed. The infantry and personnel gathered among the ruins are periodically reinforced and sent on assaults, which Ukraine’s Defense Forces successfully repel,” he explained.
Danylenko noted that had Russian troops managed to capture Vovchansk last May and advance further, they would have pushed toward Kharkiv or Kupiansk, potentially encircling Ukrainian forces fighting in the Kupiansk sector.
“The enemy failed to achieve this, and we are holding them back. Still, due to their persistent activity, they force us to allocate a certain number of forces to secure this area,” he added.
It was previously reported that he security situation in Kupiansk continues to deteriorate as Russian forces intensify attacks on the city, according to Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration on January 21.
Earlier on February 4, a Russian ballistic missile strike on Izium in Kharkiv region has resulted in the deaths of four people and left 20 others injured, five of whom required hospitalization.
