Russian Forces in Luhansk Forcibly Deploy Untrained Personnel to Front Lines Amid Manpower Crisis

According to the Atesh underground movement’s Telegram channel, Russian forces in temporarily occupied Luhansk have begun forcibly assigning staff from the so-called “LNR ” military commandant’s office as stormtroopers and sending them directly to the front lines, as reported on June 9.
The post states, “Without training, without choice—people from the rear are being thrown into the combat zone to plug the gaps in the collapsing front. This is yet another indication of the personnel and moral crisis in the Russian army and its puppet structures.“

This practice of deploying untrained rear-area personnel underscores long-standing manpower challenges within the breakaway regions, where mass mobilization since February 2022 conscripted up to 140,000 locals into “DNR “ and “LNR“ formations under coercion—often resulting in severe casualties and operational breakdowns.
Observers say that such measures risk exacerbating desertion rates and internal dissent, as some LNR reservists have previously refused orders to fight outside their home areas, revealing fractures in unit cohesion and morale.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia has been signing up 1,000–1,200 contract soldiers daily, tapping Moscow’s drive to form 13 new divisions underscoring its reliance on urgent manpower replenishment.
