Long-range drones struck deep inside Russia, targeting the Arzamas Instrument-Building Plant—a major producer of aviation and space components, including parts for cruise missiles—according to Exilenova+ on August 11.

The attack hit the facility in the Nizhny Novgorod region at around 3:55 a.m. local time. The blast damaged the building’s roof, shattered windows, and likely destroyed equipment inside the strike zone.

Photos and videos from the scene suggest the plant was attacked by two drones. A third UAV was reportedly neutralized by electronic warfare systems, causing it to lose control.

Local residents said they heard between four and seven explosions over the city but reported no sign of surface-to-air missile fire during the incident.

The Arzamas Instrument-Building Plant was founded in 1957 and has long specialized in both military and civilian systems for aerospace.

Today, it is part of the state-owned Almaz-Antey defense conglomerate and the Tactical Missiles Corporation, underscoring its strategic role in Russia’s weapons manufacturing.

The plant produces gyroscopic instruments, guidance systems, onboard computers, steering drives, and testing complexes. Notably, it manufactures key missile components, including:

  • K-051(M) guidance systems for Kh-32 cruise missiles;

  • BDG-1M damping gyroscope units for Kh-101 missiles;

  • BREM-3 steering actuator blocks and ASL-1 automatic destruction systems for Kh-59 missiles;

The facility is already under sanctions from the United States, Canada, Switzerland, the EU, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Ukraine.

Arzamas Instrument-Building Plant, which produces systems for the missiles used by the Russians to strike Ukraine daily, is located roughly 800 kilometers (500 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

Earlier, unconfirmed reports indicated that drones had struck the city of Ukhta in Russia’s Komi Republic, marking the first known incident of this kind in the region.
