Russian Shelling and Drone Strikes Wound Seven Civilians, Including Children, Across Sumy Region

Russian forces continued shelling the Sumy region on January 23, wounding seven civilians, including two children, according to Sumy Region Police.
A total of 36 settlements came under fire, with the heaviest attacks recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts. The strikes caused injuries to civilians as well as damage to homes and vehicles.

In the Seredyna-Buda community, a drone strike on a residential house injured a 59-year-old woman and her two grandchildren, aged eight and 11. In the Znob-Novhorodske community, a 52-year-old man was wounded in a drone attack.
A 36-year-old man was injured in the Sadivska community after an enemy drone strike. In the Okhtyrka community, a drone hit a residential building, wounding a 48-year-old woman. In the Esman community, a 60-year-old woman was injured as a result of a drone strike.
In addition, authorities reported damage to at least 10 private houses and vehicles in other communities across the region. Police are documenting the consequences of the attacks.


In a separate incident, on the morning of January 15, Russian forces carried out an airstrike on a community in Ukraine’s Sumy region, dropping two guided aerial bombs, according to Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
Hryhorov said the strike hit the Bilopillia community. A 35-year-old man who was outside at the time of the attack was killed, while nine civilians were injured, including six women and three men.
“Civilian infrastructure was damaged by the enemy strike. Russian forces are deliberately targeting civilian facilities and critical infrastructure in an attempt to destabilize community life and terrorize the civilian population,” Hryhorov wrote on Telegram.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian forces gathered civilians inside a church before forcibly removing them from the village of Hrabovske in Ukraine’s Sumy region.
