The number of Russian soldiers from the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment who are either killed or go missing is steadily rising, according to the Ukrainian partisan movement Atesh on February 3.

This increase in casualties and disappearances is linked to unofficial weekend trips taken by the soldiers to Tokmak and Melitopol. The soldiers reportedly leave their designated posts during these trips.

Partisans have reported that some Russian soldiers have been killed in alcohol-fueled clashes over women, while rumors circulating among the troops suggest that at least one serviceman may have been killed by the local resident who despises Russian forces.

Additionally, there has been a noticeable increase in reports of soldiers going missing, with some speculating that these disappearances could be linked to desertions.

In response, the regiment’s commanders tightened control over troop movements, restricting soldiers from freely leaving their deployment sites. This crackdown, however, is also limiting their ability to independently resolve battlefield needs, ATESH noted.

The partisan group urged Russian troops to avoid becoming the next casualties of their own military’s leadership.

“We call on Russian soldiers not to wait their turn to become victims of their criminal command. Contact us—we will help you save your life,” ATESH wrote.

Earlier, reports emerged that on the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine’s Kherson region, incidents of desertion among Russian soldiers have significantly increased.
