Zelenskyy: Over 40% of Weapons Used on the Front Line Are Produced in Ukraine

More than 40% of the weapons currently used by Ukrainian forces on the battlefield are domestically produced, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He made the statement on April 16 during a ceremony honoring workers in the country’s defense-industrial sector.
The president noted that Ukraine continues to increase production volumes and now manufactures over 1,000 types of weapons, ranging from artillery shells to long-range missile systems.
“The trend is stable: Ukraine will continue to expand weapons production to ensure its security—independently and in cooperation with partners,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that Ukraine will consistently require a strong domestic defense industry and a technological edge to respond effectively to threats.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces unveiled Tryzub, the country’s first prototype laser weapon capable of striking stationary aerial targets. Though still in early development, the system represents a major step forward in Ukraine’s domestic defense technology.
Experts describe it as a functional proof-of-concept developed under wartime conditions, with future upgrades expected to include automatic target tracking and enhanced power supply systems.
The weapon, designed to disable drones or aircraft electronics by maintaining a precise laser beam on a single point, reflects Ukraine’s push for advanced, locally produced solutions to modern battlefield threats.
Ukraine also introduced the Bars drone-missile, a new medium-range strike weapon with an estimated range of up to 800 km (500 miles). The missile joins a growing family of Ukrainian-made systems—including Peklo, Palianytsia, and Ruta—designed for long-range precision attacks deep into Russian territory.
Built for mass production, these hybrid drones combine the features of cruise missiles and UAVs, and are optimized for affordability and ease of assembly using mostly Ukrainian components.
