Two 18-year-olds were killed, and at least seven other people were wounded, including a 15-year-old girl in critical condition, after Russian forces struck a residential district of Zaporizhzhia, according to Ukrainian officials on February 3.

Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, said that the strike hit as residents were returning home, and that medics were taking three wounded people to hospital, with the 15-year-old in “extremely serious” condition.

After US President Donald Trump said the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, had agreed to a temporary pause in attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, Ukrainian officials said Russia shifted its strikes toward logistics targets and residential high-rises, including damage to a 17-story apartment building in Kyiv during overnight drone attacks on February 2.

The Zaporizhzhia strike came as Russia intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during what Ukrainian officials described as the coldest nights of the winter, with strikes on heat and power facilities across eight regions that left hundreds of thousands without heating as temperatures fell to minus 25 degrees Celsius (minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit).

Officials said disruptions also hit major cities, including Kyiv, where more than 1,170 apartment buildings were left without heating and residential buildings were damaged, and Odesa region, where more than 50,000 people were temporarily left without power and homes and vehicles were damaged.
