In the Gulyaypole direction in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, the “Phoenix” border unit successfully destroyed a Russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system alongside several other enemy vehicles, according to footage shared by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on March 5.

The operation took place after Russian forces moved the “Solntsepyok” to a firing position, where it managed to make a single shot before being destroyed by a Ukrainian drone. The destruction of the heavy weapon was part of a Ukrainian attack that saw Ukrainian forces target and eliminate several pieces of Russian armored equipment and a self-propelled artillery unit

In addition to these significant hits on military hardware, special attention was given to neutralizing Russian logistics. Ukrainian forces successfully destroyed several enemy vehicles, including both light cars and trucks. In one such strike, a cargo truck was hit, resulting in the immediate elimination of nine Russian soldiers.

This latest strike is part of an ongoing and highly successful Ukrainian campaign to hunt down Russia’s devastating thermobaric weapons. Earlier, the special operations unit Lasar’s Group reported destroying another TOS-1A Solntsepyok.

After aerial reconnaissance from the 32nd Separate Mechanized Brigade spotted the system firing on Ukrainian positions, heavy drone operators tracked it down and disabled it with a precision drop while it was on the move.

According to available intelligence data, Ukrainian forces have successfully destroyed, damaged, or captured more than 35 of these highly prized TOS-1A systems since the start of the full-scale invasion.
