A former participant in Russia’s war against Ukraine killed a Chechen national at a bus stop in Nizhny Novgorod region on the night of December 31 to January 1.

The crime has been confirmed by Grozny-Inform, with an article posted on February 6, citing Umar Vakhidov, the regional representative of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

Two videos from different angles show a man armed with a knife approaching another individual, who was sitting at a public transport stop. The attacker stabbed him twice in the chest.

The victim, in shock, tried to defend himself but collapsed to the ground. However, the assailant proceeded to stab the victim seven more times.

According to Vakhidov, the victim was a resident of Achkhoy-Martan and had been in Dzerzhinsk for work purposes.

“Yes, the deceased was indeed a resident of the Chechen Republic […] Abubakar Abuazitovich Umaev, born in 1969. He was in the city for construction work,” said Vakhidov.

“Since the perpetrator is a former participant in the special military operation , the case is being handled by the Military Investigative Committee. By order of the Head of the Chechen Republic, the case is under special supervision, and the motives for the attack are currently being investigated. The victim’s body was sent back to his homeland on Monday,” he added.

On February 6, Important Stories media reported that at least 29,000 prisoners had been allegedly recruited into the Russian Ministry of Defense’s Storm-Z units.
