Russia’s Medvedev Threatens with Tanks in Berlin, Despite Them Already Being Present in Germany

Former Russian President and Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, has issued a sharp response to an article by the German publication Bild concerning the situation in Russia’s Kursk region. On X, Medvedev declared that, in reaction to the publication—which he believes exhibits “revanchist sentiments” from Germany—Russia might deploy its newest tanks to Republic Square in Berlin.

German Foreign Ministry has recently permitted Ukraine to use German-supplied weapons, including the Leopard 2 main battle tanks, potentially on Russian soil. Markus Faber, Chairman of the Defence Committee and a member of Germany’s Free Democratic Party (FDP), supporting Ukraine’s right to use these weapons within the war zone. The European Commission and the US have also affirmed that Ukraine has the right to defend itself and attack targets in Russia, as part of the ongoing conflict.

Medvedev’s statement emphasizes that the German newspaper proudly reported the return of German tanks to Russian soil, and he asserts that Russia will take all necessary measures to showcase its military power right in the heart of Germany.

It seems that in Medvedev’s view, tanks might soon be heading to Berlin. However, the current reality presents a different picture. Berlin has already seen the presence of Russian tanks, but not in operational form. German publication “Der Spiegel” has featured destroyed Russian military equipment on display in Berlin. Specifically, the streets of Berlin have seen a display of burned-out Russian T-72 tanks, which have been set up as exhibits. This display includes tanks that were damaged during the war. These once-combat-ready machines now serve as a visual representation of the impact of the ongoing war.
