SBU Identifies “Doctor Evil” Prison Medic Behind Brutal Abuse of Ukrainian Captives

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has formally notified a Russian national, identified by the nickname “Doctor Evil,” that he is suspected of committing war crimes against Ukrainian prisoners, according to a statement on the agency’s Telegram channel on December 3.
The suspect, Illya Sorokin, served as a paramedic in the medical unit of Penal Colony No. 10 in Russia’s Mordovia region. Investigators say he abused wounded Ukrainian service members who were held in the facility.

According to the SBU, Sorokin’s reputation inside the prison stemmed from his brutality toward injured prisoners of war (POWs). Detainees allegedly gave him the name “Doctor Evil” after repeated episodes of mistreatment.
Investigators documented that during supposed “medical examinations,” Sorokin used a stun gun on prisoners, causing them to lose consciousness or suffer temporary paralysis in parts of their bodies.
The SBU says he also intentionally withheld painkillers and bandages from severely wounded captives kept in solitary cells.

Based on the collected evidence, Ukrainian authorities have charged Sorokin in absentia with war crimes and the inhumane treatment of prisoners of war.
Kyiv officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that Ukraine continues to identify individuals involved in the abuse of POWs held by Russian authorities.
Earlier, Ukrainian prosecutors opened an investigation after Russian troops executed a Ukrainian prisoner of war in the Donetsk region.
