Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, emphasized Kyiv’s determination to secure lasting security guarantees while working toward a just peace settlement, according to an interview with Deutsche Welle on August 30.

Yermak recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump held a bilateral meeting in Washington ten days ago, joined by seven European leaders.

According to him, Ukraine’s position remains firm: “It was important to confirm the commitment of the Ukrainian side. We are structured, we are very open. Several countries are ready to host negotiations at any time, but everything depends on Russia’s position.”

He concluded by insisting that negotiations must eventually involve Moscow: “We will be winners at the table of negotiations. Sooner or later, Russia will sit at the table.”

He stressed that Ukraine seeks not a temporary truce, but a sustainable solution. “The solution is not just for a few months or one or two years. We need a long-term solution, a lasting peace,” Yermak said. He added that Ukraine continues daily consultations with American and European partners on the framework of future security guarantees.

According to Yermak, international unity has grown stronger over the course of three and a half years of Russia’s full-scale invasion. “We have a lot of countries in, and every month someone new joins the Coalition of the Willing,” he noted.

Yermak also underlined Ukraine’s resilience, citing both battlefield achievements and domestic economic progress. “Once we said: give us the weapons and you can see how we fight. Now the world sees we are one of the best fighters in history. Second, give us finance and you can see how we develop our production. Now we are leaders, at least in drone production,” he stated.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine and its US and European partners are exploring post-war security guarantees for Ukraine, as part of broader diplomatic efforts following President Trump’s pledge to help protect Kyiv, involving frameworks for deployment and military support structures.
