Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, has stated that China is deepening its support for Russia by sending mercenaries to Ukraine, some of whom have already been captured. Yermak urged Chinese leader Xi Jinping to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to an interview given by Yermak to The Times, the deployment of Chinese mercenaries to fight against Ukraine signals a concerning escalation of China's involvement in the war.
“We have their documents. It’s difficult to be a mercenary in China and nobody knows about it,” he said.

Yermak emphasized the need for direct dialogue, stating, "It’s strange that President Xi never meets with President Zelenskyy. I think it’s time."
He reiterated his call for a meeting between the two leaders, which would be their first since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Previously, China President Xi Jinping pledged to deepen mutual support with Russia across multilateral forums, following Donald Trump’s threat to impose 100 percent tariffs on any country still trading with Moscow if no Ukraine peace deal is reached within 50 days, as was reported by The Telegraph on July 15.
