Slovak PM Fico Calls Zelenskyy “Enemy of Slovakia,” Threatens to Block EU Aid

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, in a statement, called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “an enemy of Slovakia,” according to Dennik N on January 28.
“Our enemy is Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy caused the problems we have. I don’t like him because he is harming Slovakia,” Fico said.
The Slovak leader criticized Zelenskyy’s efforts to secure alternative energy supplies, dismissing them as ineffective. According to Fico, the Ukrainian president has “nothing left but to talk about some gas from Azerbaijan” and to “inflate bubbles.”
Fico also reiterated his position that the only viable solution for Slovakia is the restoration of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. He warned that if Ukraine refuses to comply with these terms, his government would block all European Union aid to Kyiv.
Previously, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed anger over the recent visit of Slovak opposition deputies to Kyiv, calling it a “gesture of subservience” and issuing warnings against Ukraine.
On January 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy voiced his support for the ongoing protests in Slovakia, where tens of thousands of people have gathered to oppose the pro-Russia policies of Prime Minister Robert Fico.
