Sweden Sends Advanced Air Defense Systems to Poland After Russian Drone Incursion

Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that NATO allies, including Sweden, have provided immediate reinforcements following the Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace on the night of September 9–10. Speaking on TVN24, he emphasized that the allied reaction was both swift and coordinated.

“Each such escalation makes us more united, not divided,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

According to the minister, within hours of the incident NATO partners announced the delivery of additional support, ranging from specialized equipment to military expertise.

Sweden, which formally joined NATO earlier this year, was among the first to commit resources. “Allies announced reinforcement within a few dozen hours, providing specific equipment, skills, and capabilities,” Kosiniak-Kamysz added.

Polish officials did not disclose the exact type of Swedish assistance, but government sources cited in local media suggest the aid package includes advanced radar systems and air defense components, aimed at bolstering Poland’s ability to detect and neutralize aerial threats. Military trainers are also expected to work alongside Polish units to integrate the new systems.

The announcement comes after NATO aircraft, including Dutch F-35s and Polish F-16s, intercepted and shot down several Russian drones that had crossed into Poland during overnight strikes on Ukraine.

Wreckage was recovered in eastern Poland for technical analysis. Warsaw subsequently invoked Article 4 of the NATO treaty, calling emergency consultations among allies.

Earlier, it was reported that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul firmly rejected Moscow’s claim that Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace were due to a “navigation error,” declaring the incursions a deliberate escalation and promising a robust NATO response.
