A Russian drone crashed into a residential property in eastern Poland overnight, damaging a house and car but causing no injuries—a dangerous spillover of Moscow’s war against Ukraine into NATO territory.

A Russian drone strike rattled eastern Poland overnight when debris hit a residential home in the village of Wyryki in Lublin voivodeship, damaging the roof and a parked car, local Polish media Polsat News reported on September 10.

Police confirmed that drone fragments landed on the property. “No one was hurt,” said Andrzej Fijołek, spokesperson for the Lublin provincial police, according to Polish media.

The governor of Włodawa County, Mariusz Zańko, said the situation was still being assessed.

“In the village of Wyryki, there was an incident in which one house was damaged. We do not yet know if the drone itself hit the building and damaged the roof and ceiling, or whether it was debris,” he said.

“From what I know from residents, people heard an explosion and also saw Polish fighter jets. The situation is difficult and worrying—there is genuine concern among residents,” Zańko added. Officials are now working on-site to assess the damage.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the overnight incursion. “Last night the Polish airspace was violated by a huge number of Russian drones. Those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down. I am in constant communication with the Secretary General of NATO and our allies,” Tusk wrote.

Meanwhile, Polish police reported finding one of the downed drones in the village of Chosnówka, Biała Podlaska County, close to the Belarusian border.

“At 5:40, police officers confirmed the discovery of a damaged drone. Relevant services were notified, and an investigation is underway,” the Lublin police press office said.

The discovery came after regional law enforcement was called into an emergency meeting in response to what officials described as “unprecedented” events.

Earlier, Poland’s military said it had wrapped up air operations after eight Russian drones entered the country’s airspace overnight.
