Sweden has announced a comprehensive military and civil support package for Ukraine, worth a total of $836 million, Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson wrote in posts on X on September 11.

The package includes weapon systems, continued long-term financial assistance, and a commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s capabilities in the ongoing war against Russia.

Key elements of the support package include the procurement of 18 new Archer artillery systems, with additional 155mm ammunition worth $327 million, bringing Ukraine’s total Archer inventory to 44 systems.

Jonson highlighted the effectiveness of the Archer systems during his recent visit to a Ukrainian unit that uses the artillery, confirming its success against Russian targets.

In addition to the Archer systems, Sweden will allocate $190 million for marine defense support, including mobile coastal radar systems, new marine support vessels equipped with grenade launchers, and unmanned systems. Notably, the 32 donated Combat Boat 90 will receive upgraded sensors, weapons systems, and radars to enhance its operational capacity.

The Swedish Armed Forces will also donate $12.7 million worth of equipment, including 500 motorcycles and airbase support machinery such as trucks and tractors.

Anti-aircraft systems are also part of the package, with Tridon Mk 2 systems receiving radar sensors and command systems, alongside more programmable 40mm anti-aircraft ammunition. Sweden is also contributing $68 million in financial donations to various capability coalitions.

Jonson emphasized that while some of the systems and projects remain classified, “the Russian army can expect Swedish-Ukrainian surprises going forward.”

He reiterated Sweden’s commitment to applying “hard pressure” on Russia until the war ends.

Previously, Pål Jonson said that Europe has a narrow window to prepare for potential Russian aggression. While Russia remains “bogged down” in Ukraine, NATO must urgently strengthen its northeastern flank, Jonson told The Telegraph.
