Taiwan Adopts Combat-Tested Drone Software Used by Ukraine to Target Russian Forces

Taiwan has signed a defense technology partnership with US-German company Auterion to acquire drone software tested in combat during the war in Ukraine, Reuters reported on June 17.
Auterion’s software has been used by Ukrainian forces for drone operations against Russian targets, including tanks, naval assets, and other high-value military equipment. The company stated that the Taiwan deal could lead to the deployment of this technology in millions of drones over the coming years.
The partnership was formalized between Auterion and the Chung-Shan National Institute of Science and Technology—Taiwan’s defense ministry research arm. It focuses on drone systems and swarm control software, a critical area for modern asymmetric defense.

“What we're bringing to the table has been combat-proven in Ukraine to deter aggression and destroy tanks, naval assets, and other really expensive equipment,” said Auterion CEO Lorenz Meier.
Meier added that the partnership is intended to be long-term, noting that over the next few years, the company expects the deployment of millions of drones and a valuation in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Earlier, Ukrainian forces have destroyed a Russian BM-21 Grad multiple-launch rocket system allegedly loaded with chemical munitions.
The strike took place in the Donetsk region as the Russian crew was preparing to launch. The operation was carried out with the coordination of pilots from three separate units of the Armed Forces, who successfully targeted and eliminated the launcher before it could fire.
