To Counter Moscow’s Fear Tactics, Europe Must Show Strength, Says Denmark’s Intelligence Chief

The head of Denmark’s Defense Intelligence Service Thomas Arenkiel stated that Russia seeks to convince people of an imminent threat of war and wants them to live in constant fear.
He made the remarks during a joint briefing with Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen on October 3.
Arenkiel stated that Russia is waging hybrid warfare against Denmark and the West, using military means aggressively to exert pressure without crossing the threshold of traditional armed conflict.

According to Arenkiel, the Kremlin’s goal is to create uncertainty and internal divisions among allies in order to halt support for Ukraine and prevent decisions that go against Russia’s interests or further damage its economy.
Officials stressed that Moscow is employing tools against Denmark that would have been unthinkable before the war in Ukraine.
“We want to demonstrate military strength without entering into direct armed conflict,” Arenkiel emphasized.
Earlier, the Danish Armed Forces secretly ordered the mobilization of some reservists following a wave of unidentified drone activity.
