Sweden Sends Anti-Drone Systems and Radars to Denmark Amid Growing Airport Drone Threat

Sweden will provide Denmark with radar units and military-grade anti-drone systems in the wake of recent drone incursions that forced the closure of several Danish airports, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced on September 29, Reuters reported.
The move comes as Copenhagen prepares to host two high-level gatherings this week: an EU leaders’ summit on October 1 and a meeting of the 47-member European Political Community on October 2.
According to Reuters, Denmark has already stepped up security around the events following a series of drone incidents that disrupted air traffic at six airports last week, including Copenhagen Airport—the busiest in the Nordic region. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described the incidents as a “hybrid attack” against her country.

Writing on X, Kristersson said Sweden would deploy Counter-UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) to Denmark, alongside “a handful” of radar systems that were delivered on Sunday. He emphasized that Sweden stands ready to support its neighbor in safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring the security of upcoming European summits.
In a separate development, during the early hours of September 29, the Danish Air Force deployed fighter jets over the Baltic Sea amid reports of possible drone activity, Danish broadcaster TV2 reported.

According to police, the jets were scrambled after numerous residents reported unusual objects in the sky. Thomas Elsgård, a duty officer with the Bornholm police department, confirmed that the aircraft flew over the island in one direction before circling back.
Although Denmark’s armed forces have not issued an official statement on the incident, the military continues to monitor the country’s airspace and gather intelligence on potential drones to protect national security and maritime infrastructure.
Earlier, Denmark’s Aalborg Airport, which serves both civilian and military flights, was shut down for several hours on the morning of September 25 after drones breached its airspace.
