Trump acknowledged that using US weapons to strike deep inside Russia would be escalatory but said the issue remains open for discussion. This was reported by NBC News on October 17.

During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House in Washington, D.C., Trump was asked whether his administration would permit Ukraine to carry out such strikes and responded: “That’s something we’ll be talking about—you’re right, it’s an escalation, but we’ll be talking about that.”

Ukraine has repeatedly requested US approval to strike military targets inside Russian territory, citing the need to degrade critical capabilities and shift the battlefield dynamic. Among the weapons considered, the long-range Tomahawk missile stands out as a likely candidate due to its precision and extended reach. However, current US policy has generally restricted the use of American arms for strikes beyond Ukraine’s borders, reflecting concerns over escalation.

Earlier, Trump said he is interested in Ukrainian drones during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House in Washington, D.C. During the discussion, Zelenskyy suggested a possible exchange of Ukrainian drones for American Tomahawk missiles.
