According to French Finance Minister Eric Lombard, the United States is expected to support European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine once a ceasefire agreement is reached.

Lombard made the statement during an interview with Bloomberg Television on February 26, while attending the G20 finance ministers' meeting in Cape Town.

Lombard noted that the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and other European nations are prepared to deploy troops to ensure compliance with a ceasefire. “We want this truce to be secured by European forces with American support.

On this matter, President Trump has agreed,” he said. He further emphasized the necessity of U.S. involvement, stating, “If we want the ceasefire to hold, we need U.S. support. I believe the Americans have agreed to do so.”

On February 25, Lombard and French President Emmanuel Macron visited Washington to discuss Ukraine and trade relations with U.S. President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Earlier, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the possibility of deploying British and French troops to Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping mission following a potential ceasefire, The Telegraph reported. According to sources, the proposal, which has been raised with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, is under consideration amid concerns about potential risks and escalation.
