Trump Won’t Meet Putin Unless He Agrees to Talk With Zelenskyy, White House Says

US President Donald Trump has set a condition for holding a personal meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
This was reported by The New York Post on August 7, citing a statement from a White House representative.
According to the official, the US President will meet with the Kremlin ruler only if he also agrees to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Putin must meet with Zelenskyy for the meeting to occure. No location has been set,” he said.
In parallel, President Trump has floated the idea that the Kremlin could be open to peace talks—if the issue of territorial concessions is included on the agenda. According to Bloomberg, the suggestion was made during an informal call with allied leaders on August 7, which also included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Sources familiar with the discussion told the outlet that Trump voiced support for a potential ceasefire and indicated that Putin might be willing to engage in negotiations if territorial matters were discussed.
Meanwhile, Putin signaled that he does not rule out direct talks with Zelenskyy, but maintains that the prerequisites for such a meeting have not yet been met.
“I’ve said many times that I have nothing against it in principle—it’s possible. But certain conditions must be created for that. Unfortunately, we are still far from creating those conditions,” he told journalists after meeting with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Kremlin.
Earlier, speaking to journalists, Putin stated that both the United States and Russia had shown interest in holding the meeting and proposed the United Arab Emirates as a possible venue.
