UAV Giant Destinus Acquires Swiss AI Firm to Advance AI-Powered Rocket Drones in Ukraine

Dutch-listed aerospace company Destinus Group BV has signed a $213 million agreement to acquire Swiss firm Daedalean AG, a developer of artificial intelligence solutions for aviation.
The deal is particularly notable given Destinus’ role as the manufacturer of the Ruta rocket drones currently deployed by Ukraine, according to a report by German outlet Hartpunkt on August 5.
The acquisition is expected to be finalized by 2025. Destinus says the goal is to integrate Daedalean’s advanced AI technologies into its core products.

.
Founded in 2016, Daedalean specializes in navigation systems for aircraft operating in environments without reliable GPS signals. The company employs 150 people, including 13 PhDs with deep expertise in avionics and artificial intelligence. Daedalean has previously collaborated with Destinus, making the acquisition a strategic continuation of their partnership.
Destinus, which employs around 500 staff, is one of Europe’s largest UAV manufacturers. Headquartered in the Netherlands, it maintains offices in Germany, Switzerland, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Ukraine. According to the company, Daedalean’s expertise will be critical in developing swarm technologies for strike drone operations.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine’s Ruta missile drone—capable of striking targets up to 300 kilometers (186 miles) away—is set to be upgraded with a new navigation system that operates independently of GPS and is resistant to electronic warfare.
