UK Ready to Play Full Role in Potential Peacekeeping Efforts in Ukraine, Says PM Starmer
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has assured that the UK is ready to take a “full role” in potential peacekeeping activities in Ukraine, though he acknowledged that such a prospect is not currently on the horizon. He made the statement during an interview with Sky News on January 16.
When asked whether the UK would participate in any future peace negotiations regarding Ukraine, including the deployment of British troops to support peacekeeping efforts, Starmer emphasized the UK’s readiness to act.
“I don’t want to jump ahead, but I have made it clear that we will play our full role—because this is not just about Ukraine’s sovereignty,” the Prime Minister underlined.
“This is about the impact it will have on the UK, on our values, our freedom, and our democracy. If Russia succeeds in this aggression, it will affect all of us for a very, very long time,” Starmer added.
On January 16, the United Kingdom and Ukraine signed a 100-year partnership agreement aimed at fostering strong ties across the full range of relations, including trade, security, defense, science and technology, education, culture, and more.
