UK to Send Record Military Aid to Ukraine in 2025, Says Starmer

The United Kingdom will deliver more military support to Ukraine in 2025 than ever before, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels on February 3.

Britain has already committed $3.6 billion in lethal aid for this year, marking the largest military assistance package since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

“We must do all that we can to support Ukraine’s defense,” Starmer stated. “That means stabilizing the front line, providing the kit and training that they need, and that’s why this year the UK will give more military support to Ukraine than ever before.”

Reflecting on his recent visit to Kyiv, Starmer described the devastating impact of Russia’s war.

“I saw residential buildings destroyed just days before,” he said.

“I met soldiers in the ICU recovering from really terrible burns. And I met children whose parents are out there now on the front line. It’s yet another reminder that this is a war not just in Ukraine, but a war on Ukraine, against those children and their future.”

Starmer urged Ukraine’s allies, especially in Europe, to step up their support to help Kyiv sustain its defenses. He also touched on US President Donald Trump’s recent threat of sanctions against Russia, noting its potential impact on Moscow’s economy.

“It’s clear that’s got [Russian leader Vladimir] Putin rattled,” Starmer said.

“We know that he’s worried about the state of the Russian economy. So I’m here to work with our European partners on keeping up the pressure, targeting the energy revenues and the companies supplying his missile factories to crush Putin’s war machine.”

Earlier, the United Kingdom and Ukraine signed a 100-year partnership agreement to foster strong ties across the full range of relations, including trade, security, defense, science and technology, education, culture, and more.
