Ukraine Blinds Russia’s Air Defenses in Crimea—Podlet and Nebo-M Radars Destroyed

Ukrainian military intelligence operatives have struck two advanced Russian radar systems in occupied Crimea, targeting critical elements of Moscow’s air defense network.
According to a statement published by Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate (HUR) on September 9, special forces units used unmanned systems to hit a 48Ya6-K1 “Podlet” radar and an RLM-M module belonging to the 55Zh6M “Nebo-M” radar complex.

The HUR noted that the attack was carried out by crews from the Department of Active Measures, which specializes in operating unmanned systems.
“The RLM-M module of the ‘Nebo-M’ complex was struck while on the move, as Russian forces were leaving their combat position,” the statement said.
The 48Ya6-K1 “Podlet” is a Russian low-altitude surveillance radar designed to detect aircraft, helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles flying close to the ground.

Deployed with long-range air defense systems such as the S-400, it helps counter targets that attempt to evade detection by flying under traditional radar coverage.
The RLM-M module forms part of the 55Zh6M “Nebo-M” radar complex, one of Russia’s most advanced air surveillance systems.

The “Nebo-M” operates in multiple frequency bands to track a wide range of targets, including stealth aircraft. Its mobility allows rapid redeployment, though HUR reports that the Ukrainian strike hit the system while it was relocating.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence carried out a Black Sea raid that destroyed a Russian Harpoon-B radar, a Groza electronic warfare system, and a BL-680 assault boat, according to HUR’s statement on September 5.
