Ukraine Captures 909 Troops During Kursk Operation, Enabling Exchange of Hundreds of Defenders

In six months of the Kursk operation, Ukraine’s Defense Forces have captured over 900 Russian soldiers, according to a post by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on February 6.
“During the operation, Ukrainian forces captured 909 Russian soldiers, significantly expanding the prisoner exchange pool. This enabled the return of hundreds of Ukrainian defenders previously held in Russian prisons,” the General Staff’s press release reads.
The Kursk incursion was launched to prevent a new Russian advance into the Sumy and Kharkiv regions and continues to fulfill this objective, according to the General Staff.
“In six months of active combat in the Kursk region, Russia’s total personnel losses are estimated at approximately 39,900, including around 16,100 killed,” the press release stated.
According to the General Staff, this operation by Ukrainian forces has also forced Russia to seek assistance from North Korea, which deployed 12,000 troops to the Kursk region.
“Total North Korean losses are estimated at around 4,000 soldiers. Of the three North Korean brigades, one has been effectively destroyed, while the other two have lost combat effectiveness,” the General Staff added. “As a result, North Korean units have now been withdrawn from the front line.”
On January 31, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an interview with the Associated Press that Russia and North Korea lost dozens of officers in a Ukrainian strike on the Kursk military command post.
