Ukraine Deploys Two More Patriot Systems to Shield Cities, Defense Ministry Says

Ukraine has brought two additional Patriot air defense systems into service to help protect cities and critical infrastructure, the defense ministry said on January 1, 2026.
The ministry linked the additional Patriots to arrangements announced in December, when Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal said Ukraine and German partners had signed agreements totaling more than $1.41 billion, and that Germany had committed $13.48 billion in support for the following year.

Shmyhal also recalled the packages included long-term deliveries of spare parts for Ukraine’s Patriot systems, $234.44 million for purchases of Ukrainian drones, a $879.15 million project to produce 200 Bohdana self-propelled howitzers on new Zetros chassis, joint production of “Linza” unmanned aircraft by Ukraine’s Frontline Robotics and Germany’s Quantum Systems, and contracts to ensure steady delivery of new tactical-level electronic warfare equipment.

“I am grateful to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius for announcing this important support during the Ramstein meeting,” Shmyhal said.
“We especially value the transfer of the two promised Patriot systems and the ninth IRIS-T.”
Earlier, it was reported that Germany delivered two Patriot air defense systems and a ninth IRIS-T complex to Ukraine and also planned to provide AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles plus additional funding for purchases from US stockpiles.
