Ukraine Destroys Three Russian Iskander Launchers Used to Strike Civilians, Zelenskyy Says

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that Ukrainian forces destroyed three Russian Iskander missile systems this week, in addition to damaging several key elements of Russia’s military infrastructure.
According to Zelenskyy, the Iskander launchers were among the systems used to conduct strikes on Ukrainian territory. Their destruction is part of a broader campaign to disrupt Russia’s offensive capabilities.
The president provided this update during his evening address on June 7, citing reports from Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. He stated that Ukrainian forces also downed a Russian Su-35 fighter jet and struck military logistics, helicopters, and airfields.

“These actions complicate Russia’s operations and strengthen Ukraine’s defense,” Zelenskyy said.
The Iskander system, officially known as the 9K720 Iskander, is a short-range ballistic missile system used by Russia for precision strikes. While the declared range is 500 km, NATO estimates suggest it may reach up to 700 km or more. The cruise missile variant, Iskander-K, is believed to have a range of 1,500 to 2,000 km.
In addition to the battlefield updates, Zelenskyy reiterated his call for increased international sanctions on Russia, particularly in the energy sector. He emphasized that sustained economic pressure remains key to shifting Russia toward constructive negotiations.
Earlier, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck Russian ballistic missile launchers near Bryansk Airport on June 6, targeting systems believed to be preparing for a nighttime attack on Ukraine. Preliminary reports indicate the strike may have hit Iskander launchers, a missile warehouse, and aircraft at the site.
