Ukraine is actively working on the development of domestically produced precision-guided aerial bombs, Chief of the General Staff Anatoliy Barhylevych announced on national TV on November 24.

Barhylevych highlighted the significant threat posed by Russia’s use of guided aerial bombs, describing it as one of the most pressing issues for Ukraine’s defense.

“The leadership of the Armed Forces is developing operations to counter this threat, and they will be executed accordingly,” Barhylevych stated.

When asked if Ukraine currently possesses its own guided aerial bombs, Barhylevych confirmed that work on such munitions is underway.

“We are actively working on this. I believe we will achieve success in this area, and it will be presented in a fitting manner,” he added.

Barhylevych also noted that Russia inherited the largest stockpile of aerial bombs from the Soviet Union, providing it with a significant advantage in this regard.

Guided aerial bombs are precision munitions with a shorter range than missiles but are significantly cheaper to produce. Launched from aircraft operating within Russian or Russian-occupied territories, these bombs and their carriers remain out of reach of Ukraine’s current air defense systems.

Earlier, Russian military aircraft dropped a 250-kilogram bomb on a school in the village of Bykovka, located in the Yakovlevsky district of Russia’s Belgorod region, 45 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
