Ukraine Drives Out Russian Forces From Besalivka, Just Steps From the Border

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian defense forces have taken full control of the border village of Besalivka in Sumy region, clearing it of Russian troops.
The operation involved units of the 33rd Separate Assault Regiment and the 24th Separate Assault Battalion. Ukrainian forces reportedly eliminated 18 Russian soldiers during the engagement.
As of early July 2025, only a few residents remained in Besalivka, a village less than a kilometer from the Russian border, according to Yurii Zarko, head of the Bilopillia community.
He stated that those who stayed refused evacuation and kept livestock, adding that there has been no communication with them due to the lack of mobile service and the security situation in the area.

On July 7, 2025, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed to have captured Besalivka. However, monitoring platforms, including DeepState, and official daily maps from Ukraine’s General Staff did not confirm the presence of Russian forces in the settlement.
The latest operation suggests that Russian troops may have attempted a breakthrough with an assault or reconnaissance group, which was subsequently neutralized.
Earlier, Ukrainian military intelligence’s “Timur” unit carried out a large-scale behind-lines operation near Oleksiivka in Sumy region, killing over 330 and wounding more than 550 Russian troops, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate.
The mission involved helicopter insertions, artillery support from 155-mm “Bohdana” howitzers, FPV drone strikes, and sabotage actions that disrupted Russian supply lines and halted their advance.
