Ukrainian Troops Wipe Out Rare North Korean 140-mm Mortar in Sumy Region, Video

Ukrainian troops have destroyed a rare 140-mm mortar supplied by North Korea to Russia, according to the 225th Separate Assault Regiment. The operation was conducted in Sumy region by the regiment’s “Pentagon” unit using a strike drone.
The weapon, developed in North Korea in the 1980s–1990s and first publicly displayed during a 1992 military parade marking the 60th anniversary of the Korean People’s Army, was reportedly delivered to Russia as part of an expanded military partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang.
The 140-mm mortar is designed to target personnel, artillery and mortar batteries, and other positions from concealed firing points, complicating detection. It has a rate of fire of 10–12 rounds per minute and a maximum range of up to 8 kilometers.
The system weighs 355 kg in traveling position and 230 kg in firing position, requires a five-person crew, and uses 18-kg rounds containing 3.52 kg of explosive.

According to Ukrainian forces, the destruction of this weapon adds to Russia’s equipment losses and highlights the ongoing deliveries of artillery from North Korea, which continue to involve unique calibers that may present logistical challenges for Russian forces.
Earlier, new images revealed that Russian forces are using Chinese-made 107mm rockets with North Korean Type-75 multiple launch rocket systems, indicating possible secondary supply channels. The rockets, dated 1990, are believed to have entered Russia via the black market after North Korea provided only limited stocks.
