President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will expand its army aviation capabilities by establishing additional helicopter groups to enhance defense against Russian drones.

According to the President’s statement following a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff, the new helicopter units will carry out missions to detect and destroy enemy drones and protect key infrastructure sites.

Zelenskyy emphasized that this measure is part of a broader effort to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense system.

“Separate attention was given to cooperation with foreign partners to provide Ukraine with new types of aircraft and helicopters. This should strengthen our air defense system and increase the effectiveness of countering aerial threats,” Zelenskyy said.

He also noted that Ukraine continues working with domestic and foreign manufacturers of interceptor drones to expand production and supply the front with more systems capable of combating Russian UAVs.

“We determined how to expand the capabilities of army aviation for protection against drones. Ukraine must have the maximum number of effective means to counter air threats,” the President added.

During the same meeting, participants discussed energy security and infrastructure repairs following recent Russian strikes. Zelenskyy highlighted that the most difficult conditions remain in frontline and border communities, where “attack drones and missiles have the shortest flight times and bombardments continue almost constantly.”

He also mentioned ongoing reconstruction efforts in Odesa region and reported updates from Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Poltava regions.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Fox News that Ukraine’s FPV interceptor drones are currently achieving a 68% success rate against Russian Shahed drones, calling them the most cost-effective solution for countering Iran-made UAVs.
