Ukrainian forces have regained 285.6 square kilometers of territory on the Oleksandrivsk axis over the past month, according to the commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, on March 9.
Syrskyi said that Ukrainian troops have recovered more than 400 square kilometers of territory in total since the start of the operation in that sector.

The latest gains mark a significant development on the battlefield, with Ukrainian forces reclaiming more territory during the past month than Russian forces managed to capture in the same period.
“Ukraine’s defense forces are trying to seize the operational initiative and force the enemy to play by our rules,” Syrskyi said.
“For the first time since 2024, when we conducted the Kursk offensive operation, our troops restored control over a larger area of Ukrainian land in a month than the enemy managed to capture during the same time,” he added.

The commander said the results were discussed during a working meeting reviewing the activities of Ukraine’s armed forces in February 2026.
According to Syrskyi, the counteroffensive on the Oleksandrivsk axis remains ongoing.
“Here, formations of the Air Assault Forces have restored control over 285.6 square kilometers in a month. In total, since the start of the operation, control has been restored over more than 400 square kilometers of territory,” he said.
Earlier, Ukrainian special forces from the Defense Intelligence Directorate’s “Artan” unit, working alongside other formations of Ukraine’s Armored Forces, regained control of several frontline positions near the settlement of Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region.
